On the 2nd day of the 2nd Test against South Africa at Headingley, Alec Stewart and Geoffrey Boycott discussed Andrew Strauss passing Len Hutton to become England’s 8th leading run-scorer in Test matches. This is what they said:
AS: The league table doesn’t lie. Look at the top three (Gooch 1st, AS 2nd and Gower 3rd). And at number four: Sir Geoffrey. What are you doing down there?
GB: Look how many matches you played. 133. Miles more than any of us. And look at your average.
AS: You have to remember. I played for the team and not for myself.
